Our Lady of Lourdes Labradorite Necklace

Our Lady of Lourdes Labradorite Necklace

This captivating necklace is made with a sterling silver Our Lady of Lourdes medal depicting Our Lady surrounded by 12 stars. The reverse of the medal is etched with the words souvenier of Lourdes.  The black beads are beautiful natural black labradorite gemstone. When they move and capture the light, they have an iridescent quality showing gray and deeper black colors. This black gemstone was first found in Norway and is named from the fjords where it was found.

Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to a peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous, in 1858, in the woods near a small grotto in Lourdes, France in the French Pyrenees Mountains. Mary spoke to Bernadette during many apparitions and on the sixteen apparition, which occurred on the feast of the Annunciation, The Blessed Virgin said: I am The Immaculate Conception. There were two more apparitions and then they were over. Bernadette soon joined the Sisters of Charity and died when she was 34 years old.

Lourdes is an important place of Catholic pilgrimage. There are four magnificent basilicas built surrounding the grotto, which marks the exact spot where Our Lady appeared to St. Bernadette. Every evening, there are torchlight processions which begin at the grotto and lead to Rosary Square where the sick are blessed in the name of the Holy Mother. There are four gifts given at Lourdes: the gift of miraculous water, the gift of healing, the gift of reconciliation, the gift of strength and friendship.
